CM Punk To Be Named Pro Wrestling Illustrated "Wrestler of the Year 2011"Shhhhhhhhh. Don't tell anyone, because the magazine is not out on the newsstand quite just yet, but WWE Heavyweight Champion CM PUNK has been named Pro Wrestling Illustrated's "Wrestler of the Year" for 2011.
The honor goes along with Punk being named "WWE Superstar of the Year" on the December 12, 2011 edition of Monday Night Raw.
Pro Wrestling Illustrated is the most widely recognized non-company-owned pro wrestling magazine in the world. The publication has given out annual awards and recognitions since its inception. These awards had previously been given out by PWI's sister publication, The Wrestler. The PWI Awards have become a major topic of discussion for pro wrestling fans worldwide, and the Wrestler of the Year Award has been recognized as a major award in the industry since 1972.
